A Measure of the Sin (2013) – By Brian Morton

When a movie opens with a nude woman dancing, you have my attention. The problem with A Measure of the Sin is that, beyond that, it gets a bit cloudy!

The story (according to the web site) is about a woman who’s seperated from her mother and forced to live with a man and two other women, only to escape. But, while I watched the movie, I didn’t get that. I understood that this poor girl lost her mother, but I didn’t understand how she got to this place with this man and these 2 other women, and I didn’t understand why she didn’t just leave. There’s some interesting sequences, but nothing that made me sit back and go, ‘Oh that’s what’s going on!’, I felt lost through most of the movie…then the girl is attacked by a bear…in her bed…and nothing really comes from it.

I’m sure that the filmmakers were working with some important symbolism, but it went right over my head! All I really got was this girl wanted to escape and couldn’t for some reason, and when she finally did, she looked at the sky…that’s about it.

I’m giving A Measure of the Sin 1 out of 4 cigars, it’s an interesting concept poorly executed, I was left wondering what the hell just happened! You can find out more for yourself by heading over to http://www.ameasureofthesin.com/A_Measure_of_the_Sin/Home.html.
