A Stiff Upper Lip (2010) – By Brian Morton

Speaking as a person who’s had a mustache for most of my adult life, a mustache competition seems to me to be something that I might do, if I had an abundance of time on my hands. It never seemed particularly interesting or meaningful, to be honest. But, I just saw a new documentary by Mike Maroney and Casper Hoskins that might make me change my mind and grab my mustache wax!

A Stiff Upper Lip follows Dave Hill as he begins his quest to grow and try to win the 2007 World Mustache And Beard Championship. He begins his quest really because it’s being held in his hometown, but, as the movie progresses, it seems that Dave becomes more and more enthused with his mustache and the ‘mustache culture’. Where does Dave wind up in his quest? Well, you’re just going to have to grab a copy for yourself and find out!

A Stiff Upper Lip is a glimpse into a world that most of us just snicker about, and it’s a very interesting place. Mustache aficionados are just like the rest of us…well, except for the giant, flamboyant mustaches. But, they’re all normal people who are just interested in their hobby, and after watching this doc, you’ll understand that they’re just as normal as your average trekkie or comic book geek…which means that they’re all pretty nice people who just have an unusual hobby. I’m giving A Stiff Upper Lip 3 out of 4 cigars, it’s a bit short, but it’s very entertaining and pretty informative. You can put down that mustache wax and grab a copy for yourself by clicking here.
