American Dreamer (1971) – By Jason S. Lockard

Dennis Hopper co-wrote and directed the film Easy Rider which turned out to be a runaway success. Ushering in one of the most significant turning points in film history, and in turn making Dennis Hopper an unlikely king of Hollywood.

Dennis Hopper’s follow-up film would be called The Last Movie. It was decided to make a documentary following the making of that film. That is where American Dreamer comes in. Now Etiquette pictures brings us this documentary on blu-ray/DVD combo pack.

The documentary follows Dennis as he puts together his next project ‘The last movie’. This documentary gives you an inside glimpse into his private life, where he gives his views on many hot topic issues of the day.

Etiquette Pictures has partnered with the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis to bring this forgotten work. On this Blu-ray/DVD set not only do you get the film but bonus features include; “Fighting Against the Wind” a 30 minute making-of featurette, “A Long Way Home” a 7 minute preservation featurette, a photo gallery, 16 page booklet and a reversible cover.

I have to admit this release is not for everyone! This is more for fans of Dennis Hopper, the counter culture or fans of the film making process. If you fall into one or all of these categories by all means pick this one up. Head over to
