Film Reviews: Captives (2008) - By Brian Morton
Posted on Saturday, January 03, 2009 @ 19:51:43 Mountain Standard Time by Duane

Thrill seekers, adrenaline junkies, "X" athletes, there's just too many people out there trying to be 'extreme'. Where does it all lead? Well, filmmaker Randall Chu has written and directed a movie that tells the story of one couple who enjoy challenging themselves and what happens when they go a bit too far.

The movie is called Captives and it's the story of two couples who meet by chance. One couple is on an 'adventure' vacation, the other is just a quiet seemingly normal suburban couple. When the vacation couple's car breaks down in front of the other couple's house events are set in motion that can't be stopped and have one couple questioning why they wanted the excitement in the first place. If I tell you too much about this movie, I'm afraid that I'll ruin it, and Mr. Chu has put together such a unique story told in a great way, it really begs you to check it out. Not quite horror, not fully a drama, Captives is more a morality tale than either of those, asking the questions, how far is too far and who exactly is the captive here?

Captives is a terrific movie, and when you consider that this is Chu's first film, it makes it all the more amazing! Strong acting, great direction and a killer story, Captives is a movie that you definitely need to see. I'm giving Captive four out of four cigars, because once I got to the end, I sat there wondering what I might do in the place of the adventurous couple...it's a movie that will make you take a hard look at yourself and your spouse or girlfriend. You can check Captives out for yourself by heading over to Captives Movie web site. It's a movie that's well worth your time, and I, for one, can't wait to see what Randall has in store for us next! So, until next time, when I'll be keeping a close eye on my wife...she's up to something, I'm sure of it...remember that just because the budget is low, doesn't make the movie bad.
