Film Reviews: Thirst (2007) - By Brian Morton
Posted on Saturday, January 03, 2009 @ 21:01:54 Mountain Standard Time by Duane

I can't tell you how many indie vampire movies I've seen...the count must be in the hundreds. Every indie filmmakers seems to start with either a vampire movie or a zombie movie, which isn't to say that I hate these movies; in fact, there's a good portion of them that I enjoy. That's the case with Thirst from Frozen State Productions.

Thirst is a vampire tale with a bit more depth, in this short; a vampire finds his friend dead and stalks the killer. Now, that might be a pretty simplistic plot, but the ending is terrific! I just wish that the movie had been executed a bit better. While the story, and the vengeance idea, is terrific, the acting is just a bit stiff and the vampire premise is a bit overused at this point (which isn't the fault of the filmmakers here).

Thirst is a great premise that really needed a bit more fleshing out, and, I know that low budget filmmakers rarely have the time, let alone the budget to flesh these things out, but this is a premise that really deserved more time and money. I'm giving Thirst two and a half out of four cigars, because a good idea does not a good movie make, and Thirst was an idea that deserved a bit more. You can find out more about Thirst by heading over to the Frozen State Productions web page. So, until next time, when I'll be wearing garlic around my neck, just in case, remember that just because the budget is low, doesn't make the movie bad.
