Film Reviews: The Little Zombie (2008) - By Brian Morton
Posted on Monday, February 02, 2009 @ 17:53:42 Mountain Standard Time by Duane

I'll readily admit that I'm not a very soft-hearted guy, in fact, some call me an outright bastard, but there are times when I do get a bit soft-hearted and when I do you know that whatever made me that way has to be good to get through to me! Well, a new short from Frozen State Production, called The Little Zombie, gave me that warm feeling down in the cockles, and I didn't even mind admitting it.

The Little Zombie is about a kid who goes out to play one day and is attacked by a dog that's been infected by a strange virus. Soon after, the kid becomes one of the walking dead, the trouble is that being a child zombie, he gets less respect than you average movie reviewer! So, when he attempts an attack, but is easily beaten back by the woman he has descended upon! After a day of shuffling around and looking for victims, our little zombie finds his way back to the playground where he was first attacked where he meets another kid and they begin to play.

If you're looking for your standard issue zombie short, then you're not going to like this, but, if you're looking for a short with a bit more heart, then The Little Zombie is definitely for you. At first, I thought the movie was turning out to be one short joke about the little zombie who couldn't, but in the end, I realized that it's a film that's really about much more. Despite being a zombie, our hero is still just a kid, who just wants to be around his friends and play, which, after all, is true of every kid, everywhere. If you want to go a bit deeper, I believe that writer/director Ron Johnson is making a larger statement about society, and how we should all get along whether we're black, white, yellow...or a zombie. I'm giving The Little Zombie four out of four cigars, its well worth your time, it's a fun little movie with plenty of heart! You can find out more about The Little Zombie by heading over to the Frozen State Productions web page.
