Film Reviews: Uptown (2009) - By Brian Morton
Posted on Monday, June 01, 2009 @ 00:05:00 Mountain Daylight Time by Duane

I've said it before and I'll say it again, love is a weird thing. It'll make you do the dumbest stuff and do it like you were a genius! It takes all the common sense out of us, but it's still the best feeling in the world. That's sort of the theme of a new movie by Brian Ackley called Uptown.

Ben is a young filmmaker who's on an interview with a woman he wants in his next movie, that's Isabel. As the two chat and get to know each other, it's clear that there's a chemistry between the two...that's when Isabel reveals that she's married. This doesn't deter Ben, who's so charmed by Isabel that he's happy to be her friend. As the two cultivate their friendship, Ben decides he doesn't care if Isabel's married, he just wants to be around her. Now, factor in Isabel's husband, who doesn't like this situation and you have a potential problem. But, Ben takes an unusual step that really surprised me! I won't give away the end, but it'll make you rethink your relationships and give you a renewed hope in humanity.

Uptown is a cool little movie about men, women and the things we do when we're together. It's not a perfect movie, there are long stretches of conversation and walking that I felt a bit bored by, but overall, once you're drawn into the situation between these two star-crossed lovers, it'll have you wanting a happy ending. I'm giving Uptown 3 out of 4 cigars, it's not for everyone, but if you're a romantic at heart, you'll love this! You can find out more about Uptown by heading over to the Uptown Film web site.
