Film Reviews: Wannabe (2009) - By Brian Morton Posted on Saturday, August 01, 2009 @ 00:48:29 Mountain Daylight Time by Duane
The word 'wannabe', to me, conjures up visions of girls dressed like MaDonna with the lace gloves and the weird petticoats all singing 'Like A Virgin' before a concert. And, after the 'Goth' frenzy that passed through the high schools several years ago, there are 20 and 30 somethings who are still 'wannabe vampires', and that's what the new short from Liberty or Death Productions is all about.
Viola is a woman who's obsessed with vampires, so much so that she's been trolling online trying to find a real vampire, and, as luck should have it, she found one. Now, late one night, she's invited to the vampire's home to be converted. Viola is very excited, because finally she's going to meet the real deal and become what she's always wanted to be! Except, that's not exactly what happens.
To tell you more would ruin this perfectly cool little movie, James Mannan has put together a vampire tale where nothing is exactly what it seems to be. Steffani Pieart is great as Viola and Robert Webster is fantastic as the 'Renfield' for our vampire. And, in the end, we'll all learn that, besides not being what it seems, things sometimes just don't turn out the way you think they will. I'm giving Wannabe four out of four cigars, it's a great story, put together very well and it's definitely worth your time. You can find out more about Wannabe by heading over to the Liberty Or Death Productions web site.
