Film Reviews: Attack of the Lobstermen from Mars Trailer Trilogy (2007-2009) - By Duane L. Martin Posted on Tuesday, September 01, 2009 @ 22:51:30 Mountain Daylight Time by Duane
I absolutely love getting stuff in to review that's new and fresh and inventive and just plain fun. Recently, I received this trilogy of short films from Silvertip Films, and I knew going in they'd be cheesy, but there's cheesy, and then there's hella fun cheesy, which is what these films are. I mean seriously, I haven't seen anything with this much cheesy goodness in quite a while.
But what is it exactly? Well, it's actually a series of three shorts, the first of which is actually made more like a trailer. The three films so far are called Attack of the Lobstermen from Mars, Attack of the Lobstermen from Mars - Dirk's Revenge, and Attack of the Lobster Zombies from Transylvania.
Andy Willis stars as our hero Brock Flanagan, complete with a cheesy fake mustache, that judging by the outtakes, he had a hell of a time keeping on. Brock's faithful sidekick Lola, played wonderfully by Emily Swatton who manages to combine being super cute, super sexy and super glamorous all at the same time, is always right there at his side fighting the forces of evil. Peter Coster plays the villain Dirk. He's human, but in the various episodes, that becomes a little blurred. Especially when he has his head transplanted on a lobster body.
The entire series is shot in front of a green screen, with cheesy cartoonish backgrounds and Lobstermen characters drawn by Andy Willis that the real actors interact with. The amazing part of it is, even though it's all cartoonish, you forget that while you're watching it. It all just kinda bends together into one big ball of cheesy awesomeness that's so much fun, it'll leave you wishing there was more. I know that's how I felt when I finished watching them.
Now, here's the best part. You can see them too! Silvertip Films has them right on the website, and you can check them all out at the following links:
Attack of the Lobstermen from Mars (2007)
Attack of the Lobstermen from Mars - Dirk's Revenge (2008)
Attack of the Lobster Zombies from Transylvania (2009)
These Lobsterman films are just so much fun, and so freakin' creative, they have to be seen to be believed. Geoff Cockwill is the writer and director of these films, and combined with the artistic talent of Andy Willis, and a small but great cast of actors, he's really created a winner. After you check out the Lobstermen films, be sure to head on over to the Silvertip Films website to find out about all their other great films as well.
