Film Reviews: I Know Who You Are (2005) - By Duane L. Martin
Posted on Monday, October 31, 2005 @ 23:00:00 Mountain Standard Time by Duane

Wow. You know I've seen a lot of short films lately that have been extremely well written and put together, and there seems to be some machine out there churning them out or something because I just watched yet another one. This one is a ten minute short called, I Know Who You Are from director Greg Durbin.

Since it's only a ten minute short, there's not much to go into story wise, but here's the long and the short of it. A guy and his sister go to this old gypsy looking fortune teller. She picks up on something bad happening to the guy's girlfriend at 4pm that day, and tells him all the signs that will lead up to it. The guy doesn't believe it at first, but as he begins to recognize more and more of the signs the old gypsy woman told him to watch out for, he starts to freak and tries to do everything in his power to stop what's coming. But can he?

This ten minute short just goes to show you that you don't have to cram ten minutes worth of story into an over-bloated 90 minute flick just to make people feel like they saw a whole movie. These shorts like this are concentrated entertainment and are great for people with short attention spans.

Pretty much everything about this movie was great. The acting was good, the story was tight, the editing was well paced and moved everything along at a good clip. The camera work and the lighting were both great as well. The only minor complaint I would have is that the voices could have been recorded better. Some of the dialogue came out kinda quiet and hard to pick up on behind the music. It wasn't a huge problem though. Mostly it was just in the gypsy's house that I noticed it.

The way the signs the gypsy laid out in her reading kept appearing as the film progressed was quite impressive. I was totally oblivious to some of them, but fortunately my wife was watching it with me and pointed them out. Every time she did that it made me feel stupid for not noticing it. But enough about my lack of observation.

The DVD I received was well packaged and highly professional. I would like to compliment everyone involved with this film on the fine job they did. You all have a lot to be proud of here.

Right now the film is making the rounds at various film festivals. If you'd like to find out more about the film, you can visit the film's website at http://www.trueindie.org.
