When a mutated, killer cat escapes from a genetics lab, it finds its way into the arms of a vacationing girl who, along with her friend and a few guys they met, takes it aboard the boat of a corrupt businessman.  Once they're out to sea, the cat disables the boat, and as they drift helplessly, the cat starts killing them off one by one.  Will anyone survive to tell the tale?  You'll have to watch the film to find out.

Holy crap this was a cheesy film, and I don't mean cheesy in a bad way.  This movie rules!

Why does it rule?  Well, first you take a bunch of victims and strand them on a yacht with a mutant (but otherwise normal looking) cat that actually has another mutant cat crawl out of it's mouth once in a while to kill people when it gets pissed off (it looks like it's puking a mutant hairball when it happens)...and that's all it takes.  But this movie didn't stop there, oh no!  They threw in 80's movie staples George Kennedy and Alex Cord, just to make it extra awesome!

In general though, the cat is the real star of the film.  Watching that wet, hairy mutant climb out of its mouth and then expand to two or three times the size of the original cat so it can go around killing people, only to shrink down afterwards so it can climb back in...man that was just golden.  It's not even something you have to figure out.  You don't sit there wondering why the mutant keeps shrinking back down and climbing back into the regular cat's mouth, or why the regular cat even lets it.  You don't sit there wondering how it grows and shrinks like it does.  It just doesn't matter.  All that matters is that it's hella fun watching these people getting aced one by one by this mutant cat out in the middle of the ocean, and wondering which one is gonna buy the farm next, and in what messed up way it's going to happen.

The acting in this film was typical 80's style acting by everyone involved.  As for the characters, you got the corrupt businessmen / mobsters, the two relatively stupid girls, the young jock, the young guy with aspirations of being a rich businessman someday, the smart biologist guy who figures it all out, and the capable, female captain of the yacht who's only there because she wants to buy it back from the busnessman who snaked it from her father and is doing her best to get it up and running again so they can get to safety.

The key word for this movie is fun.  It's one hell of a lot of fun.  You might at first thought think it's just another crappy 80's mutant / horror movie, but you couldn't be more wrong.  This film brings a whole bucket of fun to the party, and it's definitely worth watching it, if for no other reason than to watch the cat jumping into the lifeboat to attack the biologist guy at the end...twice!

This film has been released by Liberation Entertainment on a double feature DVD with another film called Mutant (also reviewed in this issue) and is available through all the normal outlets.  Both movies are great, so if you like these 80's kind of fun monster flicks, be sure to grab the DVD and check them out!
