I've become a big fan of Jim Haggerty's Yellow Ape Productions. The movies that Jim makes are just good low budget fun, featuring good stories with good actors and, within his budgets, great production values. Well, after last year's Grave Danger and Witchmaster General, I expected a short hiatus from Mr. Haggerty, but Jim is full of surprises and this year's surprise is that he's releasing his 'lost film', From the Inside!
From the Inside was a film that Jim wrote, produced and directed after finishing I Dream Of Dracula and The Slasher, but From the Inside sort of fell apart after principle photography wrapped. Due to some personal issues and issues in post-production, Jim put From the Inside on the back burner for over a year, and then came back with Grave Danger and Witchmaster General. With those last two movies under his belt, Jim decided to take another look at From the Inside...and, luckily for us, decided to finish the movie and release it. And, I say luckily for us, because From the Inside is Jim's best film to date.
The story here is about a young wife, who lives with her well-to-do husband in the middle of nowhere. When their home in invaded by two criminals and the husband is killed, things begin to take an even stranger turn than you can imagine. Two unsuspecting tourists wander through, after having their car break down and now the criminals have to decide how to deal with them, while getting rid of a dead body! To go into further detail would do a great disservice to Mr. Haggerty's movie, which has a plot that's filled with twists and surprises at every turn...it's a very well written mystery that really is worth your time, and, just when you think you know what's going on, Jim manages one more swerve, just to keep you on your toes!
I'm giving From the Inside four out of four cigars, it's a cool little indie that's well worth your time and money! You can find out more about where From the Inside is showing and grab a copy for yourself by heading over to the Yellow Ape Productions web page.
