Flowers for Emily (2007) - By Brian Morton

Posted on Saturday, March 01 @ Mountain Standard Time by Duane

I've seen so many 'revenge' movies that sometimes I feel that blowing up a building in response to a wrong done to me might just be acceptable. I guess that it's the Hollywood revenge that I'm used to, but when it comes to realism and what these things really mean, I saw a short film that says it all!

It's called Flowers for Emily and it's the story of a homicide detective who's daughter is killed by a hit and run driver, and, since she was hit in the cul-de-sac where they live, it seems unlikely that no one knows anything...yet no one does. As the poor man spirals out of control, he spots the car one day and calls a friend. I won't give away the ending, but let's just say this is a far more believable ending than most movies would feed you.

Annabelle Fouchard has crafted a movie that's both believable and satisfying. Sometimes things don't go our way, and sometimes the worst thing you can imagine happens right on your front door, and it's the best among us who come through it all as better people, not revenge filled monsters. I'm giving Flowers for Emily four out of four cigars, because this movie took a slice of real life (something that might actually happen) and show us how the best among us would react, it's almost something you can try to live up to. It's a great movie! You can find out more about Flowers for Emily by heading over to the Black Lantern Films web site, you can find out more about Flowers for Emily and all of Annabelle's movies. You won't be disappointed! So, until next time, when I'll be back in my full on, gun-totting, dynamite-tossing revenge mode, remember that the best movies are bad movies.
