Cam Shot (2008) - By Brian Morton Posted on Thursday, May 01 @ Mountain Daylight Time by Duane
In the new short, Cam Shot, Eric Falardeau has made a pretty powerful statement, not only about film but about the people who make them.
On first viewing, Cam Shot might just seem to be a short 'girly' film, with a hot chick (Cyan D) posing topless in a vacant room, but, as you begin to watch and think about it, Cam Shot is really about film, filmmakers and a way of seeing the world. Now, after first viewing the movie, you would probably (like I did) believe that it was a commentary on the current popularity of porn in society. But, after thinking about it for a day or two, I realized that it's not just about porn, it's about the people who make and watch porn. It's a statement about how easy it probably is to get a girl in front of a camera and have her do what you tell her to do, but it's also a statement about the people who do that. And, at the end of the film, as the film unspools, you realize that it's not about the girl, it's about the person holding the camera.
Cam Shot is a very short movie, clocking it at less than 5 minutes, but it's a very powerful 5 minutes. Eric Falardeau has made a film that's not only powerful, but beautiful, both the girl in the movie and the way the film itself looks, hearkening back to what used to be called 'smokers'. It's a wonderful short that deserves all kinds of praise from people much more film-learned than me! You can find out more about Cam Shot and Mr. Falardeau's other films by heading over to the Out Of Nowhere Productions MySpace page. So, until next time, when I'll be 'loading my camera' if you know what I mean, remember that the best movies are bad movies.
