Film Reviews: President's Day (2009) - By Brian Morton Posted on Monday, February 01, 2010 @ 00:05:00 Mountain Standard Time by Duane
We all know that elections are murder...for those involved and for those of us who sit and watch...but some elections are more murder than others, school class elections, for example. In the new movie from Chris LaMartina's Midnight Crew Studios, President's Day, we get to see how murderous a class election can really be!
President’s Day is the tale of class elections at Lincoln High, and there is no shortage of candidates…and, it’s everyone you’d expect, the head cheerleader, the school nerds and there’s a couple of unusual candidates, the new girl in class and the cool kid who is generally above it all…and it’s these last two kids who are the center of the controversy. And that controversy is….MURDER! It seems that someone, dressed as Abraham Lincoln, is killing off the candidates for class president one by one. Campus security is baffled, the local police can’t figure it out, so our new girl and the cool kid are left to solve the murders themselves!
Now, if this sounds like your typical 80s slasher flick…then you’re right! LaMartina has put together an amazing tribute to those slasher flicks of yesteryear, there’s the school cliques, the weird teachers, the inept cops and the kids who are left to pick up the pieces when the doltish adults can’t get the job done…it really took me back. President’s Day is a cool slasher flick that will leave you guessing the identity of the killer until the bitter end…something that made me very happy, I hate it when new filmmakers (who are trying to do an 80s homage) telegraph who the killer is in the first few minutes of the film, President’s Day keeps the identity under wraps until it’ll be driving you as crazy as the people on screen! I’m giving President’s Day three and a half out of four cigars, it’s not perfect, but if it’s 80s style slashers that you love…then this movie is for you! You can find out more about President’s Day by heading over to the Midnight Crew Studios web page.
