Film Reviews: Addicted to Murder (1995) - By Brian Morton Posted on Monday, March 01, 2010 @ 23:13:25 Mountain Standard Time by Duane
I've seen vampire movies and I've seen serial killer movies...but it's pretty rare to see both combined into one movie. And, it's even rarer to see them done well! Well, Kevin Lindenmuth managed to do both back in the mid-90s with Addicted to Murder, and whether it's blood suckers or mental patients you prefer, this movie delivers!
Joel is just a kid when he comes across a vampire, Rachel, and her victim in the woods. Rachel, sensing something special in Joel, let's him live and the two form a bond. Through the years, Joel is asked to stab, mutilate and do other nasty things to the vampiress in order for her to 'feel' something. It seems that living for centuries makes one bored and you begin to feel that you've done it all...except be attacked with a chainsaw apparently! Well, eventually Rachel and Joel parts way, but Joel has acquired a taste for killing and soon finds himself trying to up the ante himself...just to feel something! When Joel finds himself in New York, it isn't long before a local vampire and he cross paths and, soon, Joel is back to his old tricks, even though he's quite bored with it and desperately wants to find a way out!
Addicted to Murder is quite an interesting story, set between Michigan and New York, the story of Joel is compelling and has you wondering what the hell is going on in places...which is exactly what Lindenmuth wants, I believe. And, in the end, when Joel's real destiny is revealed, it just left me wanting to rush to the DVD player to drop in Addicted to Murder 2!! If you'd like to catch Joel, the hot vampires and all the carnage for yourself, head over to the Brimstone Media Productions web page for more info.
