Film Reviews: Chepachet (2010) - By Brian Morton
Posted on Monday, March 01, 2010 @ 22:18:14 Mountain Standard Time by Duane

No matter where you go, people are people, there are good ones and there are bad ones, it just doesn't matter how far you might go, you'll find someone with baggage that they just can't handle. And, that seems to be the theme of the movie, Chepachet, by Ken Kushner.

Chepachet is a small town in Rhode Island where two middle aged friends, Cole and Lud, live. A few years ago, the two were driving home from an evening of partying, when they had a terrible accident, leaving both men scarred, both physically and emotionally. Now, a few years later, Cole has received a settlement from Lud's insurance company, allowing him to live comfortably, while Lud is forced to continue his life driving a truck. Cole has come to realize that life is precious and each second is to be relished, while Lud wallows in his guilt and hatred of Cole, drinking his life away. When Cole hires a young mentally impaired girl, Karen, to help around the house, things are about to change!

Cole develops a platonic crush on Karen, while Lud can't stand for Cole to be happy and intends on ruining the relationship. In the end, things will never be the same. Chepachet is really a story of life, how life hands you challenges and, sometimes, tragedies and how our lives are is mostly how we choose to deal with these things. Cole, Lud and Karen are all amazing characters and the acting here is top notch. The story is good (if a little long) and, the ending will have you wondering what might happen to these poor souls who have already seen so much misery in their lives. I'm giving Chepachet 3 out of 4 cigars, it's a little bit long and pretty talky, but the story is good and it's well worth your time! You can find out more about Chepachet by clicking over to the Chepachet movie web page.
