Film Reviews: Law Abiding Citizen (2009) - By Brian Morton
Posted on Monday, March 01, 2010 @ 23:31:42 Mountain Standard Time by Duane

When I first saw the trailer for Law Abiding Citizen, I have to admit, I wanted to see it. After all, I'm a huge sucker for these kinds of revenge movies, but, because it looked like just another 'cookie-cutter' revenge/action movie, I never took the time to get to the theater. And now, after seeing it on DVD, I've had my eyes opened. I should never judge a book by its cover...or a movie by its trailer...Law Abiding Citizen is a revenge movie, but it's much more than just that.

Our story opens with a home invasion, where Clyde loses his wife and daughter, but things go from bad to worse for Clyde when the prosecutor decides to take a deal from one of the killers to testify against the other, guaranteeing that one will get the death penalty, but the other will get a minimal sentence. This doesn’t set well with Clyde, who feels that justice wasn’t done. And, what happens in a movie when a guy doesn’t feel that justice is done? That’s right, he takes the law into his own hands, with awesome results!!!

Law Abiding Citizen isn’t just a ‘revenge’ movie though, it’s a lot more, this is a revenge movie plus! Jamie Foxx gives a fine performance as the prosecutor, but it’s really Gerard Butler’s Clyde that you find yourself rooting for…sometimes. The real beauty of Law Abiding Citizen is that it makes you think, who’s the good guy and who’s the bad guy and what is justice anyway? I found myself rooting for one person and then wondering why I felt the way I did…and wondering if I would actually do the same thing. Law Abiding Citizen rates 4 out of 4 cigars, this is one of the best ‘revenge’ movies I’ve ever seen, the characters aren’t just caricatures, and the story is amazing. Do yourself a favor and get a copy of Law Abiding Citizen right now! You can get one by heading over to the Anchor Bay Entertainment web page.
