Film Reviews: The Good Sisters (2010) - By Brian Morton
Posted on Friday, April 02, 2010 @ 00:05:00 Mountain Daylight Time by Duane

In JimmyO Buril's latest movie, The Good Sisters, JimmyO makes a departure from the usual slasher fare for a more subtle horror. The movie is The Good Sisters and it's one of the best indie movies I've seen this year!

Debbie Rochon and April Burril play the sisters, Breanne and Kindra Good, sisters who are reincarnated witches who are trying only to keep their identities secret from the other people who live in the boarding house where they live. But, between their chanting at night and their general odd-ness, the sisters don't really have any friends in the house...in fact, they believe that everyone in else in the house is 'out to get' them, and this leads to some issues. First, the sisters begin seeing everyone in the house as an enemy, taking the most seemingly innocent act as something far more sinister, then they begin protecting themselves by casting spell on the other residents! In the end, we're not sure if the sister are, in fact, witches or just delusional...but the horror in the end, is just the same.

The Good Sisters is one of the best written, best acted indie movies of the year. Both April Burril and Debbie Rochon are perfectly cast as the witch sisters, and everyone surrounding them is very strong. The story is amazing, beginning as an occult horror movie and then, in the end, making us wonder what happened entirely! JimmyO Burril may be the best indie horror writer/director out there right now...and, if this is only his third movie, I can't wait to see what's next. I'm giving The Good Sisters 4 out of 4 cigars, it's well written, well acted and is just a great story. You can get a copy for yourself by heading over to the Forbidden Pictures web page.
