Coach Seasons 1 and 2 (1989-90) – By Jason S. Lockard

In the late 80s and 90’s football fans enjoyed the outrageously funny antics of Coach Hayden Fox (Craig T. Nelson), the head coach of Minnesota State University football team. Hayden was the prototypical dumb jock with a big heart. Now Mill Creek Entertainment has released the first two seasons of this show on DVD.

Coach boasted of a great cast of characters from Craig T. Nelson playing Coach Fox, his loving and patient girlfriend Christine Armstrong played by Shelley Fabares classic TV fans would know her best as Dr. and Mrs. Stone’s daughter on The Donna Reed Show and Luther Van Dam Defensive Coordinator for Minnesota State played by Jerry Van Dyke.

The first season composed of 13 episodes and the second is 20 episodes long. There is not a bad episode in this collection, but a couple of the funniest episodes in this collection are; “If Keith Jackson Calls, I’ll Be at My Therapist’s”, in this episode Hayden has a nervous twitch and is to be interviewed on the game of the week by Keith Jackson. He needs help, so he tries being hypnotized. The other standout episode is “Homewreckers”, Hayden is left at home in his girlfriend’s house he gets bored and invites his friend and defensive coordinator Luther over which ends up being a huge mistake.

This four disc DVD set includes all 33 episodes of the first 2 seasons. The audio and video quality of the episodes are sharp and the slim line case that it comes in is perfect for not taking up a lot of space on the shelf if your a DVD fanatic like me.

So if your a fan of football, sitcoms or Craig T. Nelson this shows this is an absolute must add to your collection. Head over to or your local video provider and pick this one up today!
