Rogue Cinema Sleepover Girl - September 2009

Naama Kates

All About Naama:

Name: Naama Kates

Age: 24

Location: City of Angels!!!

Some of my favorite things: Newly, the Silversun Pickups, my cat Masha, Nethack, my banged up Chevy Cavalier, the yoga mat, West coast sunsets, East coast seasons, Southern accents in Northern Liberty, salsa- the dance and the sauce. Rogue Cinema!

Most people would be surprised to know that I: Don’t have a TV, an i-pod, an i-phone, power-windows, locks, or steering, or any more clothes than fit into a couple of duffel bags. Don’t miss New York. I don’t. Really, I swear… hehe… Occasionally do musical theatre!! Have 4 tattoos.

Hobbies / special skills: Music of all sorts, listening, singing, writing, piano, guitar, Logic Pro, YOGA, NYT Sunday crosswords, “flaring” (tossing bottles around bartending), reading old books about religions and languages and magic, cutting boys’ hair, getting lost.

Number of years acting / modeling: Hmmm, 5-ish…

Favorite genre(s) and or film(s): My absolute number one favorite movie is Bertolucci’s Il Conformista. The Conformist. That’s just the most amazing movie ever, for some reason… I love old classics, Gone with the Wind, the Sound of Music, Singing in the Rain, newer stuff- ANYTHING of Spike Lee, including all the ones people don’t like, same goes for Darren Aronovsky and Danny Boyle… David Kronenburg “Spider”, Roman Polanski- Rosemary’s Baby and Chinatown… Sacha Baron Cohen is a genius, Mike Judge, Christopher Guest, ohhh and Jane Campion… I think my taste is all over the place.

Acting / modeling gigs that I'm the most proud of: Hmmmm, Cookies and Cream! It’s a beautiful beautiful movie. My first movie Nothing Sacred (being retitled and cut to “Twilight of Magic”) is really strange but has these occult themes I really like… Steve Penta’s music video for “Die Tonight, Live Forever”… Check it out on youtube, it’s awesome.

What I look for in a potential acting or modeling job: With modeling jobs, truthfully it’s usually about the money, but if it’s not, it’s about the photographer, good technique, good spirit, good taste. With acting jobs I also look for the basics first, good team! Beyond that, it’s about the role, is it honest? Funny? Fun? Is it different than things I’ve done before and is there room to explore…

Bio:
Moved to NYC at 18… Did a lot of bartending, modeling here and there, some student films, started taking acting classes at Australian Institute of Dramatic Arts in NYC, and got a few lead films roles, met my manager and on a trip to LA got a good TV role, so I made the move from coast to coast. Now here I am.
