Death Valley (2008) – By Brian Morton

If you’ve watched any horror movies, then you know that two things spell big trouble, rave parties and biker gangs. Well, in the new movie, Death Valley, the two things meet again, and the ensuing crash is pretty entertaining!

It all begins with four friends heading to the desert for a party. Sex, drugs and rock and roll are on the agenda for the weekend. When the party ends, they find themselves in the desert with a broken down car…well, not broken exactly, it seems that while they were sleeping it off in a nearby cave, someone stole their battery. When two thugs show up on dirt bikes, it becomes apparent that their problems are going to get worse before they get better, and when one of the thugs gets shot, things definitely take a turn for the absolutely worst! Now, the four friends have to face off with the whole gang to try to get back home.

Death Valley is definitely a throwback to the biker movies from the later 70s, the horror is all derived from the amoral gang, not monsters or maniacs, just bad bikers doing bad things. It’s kind of The Hills Have Eyes without the mutations. I’m giving Death Valley three out of four cigars, it’s not perfect and, once the action gets started it’s all pretty formulaic, but, if you enjoy these kinds of movie (as I do), then you’ll enjoy this. You can find out more about Death Valley and how to get your own copy, by heading over to the Allumination Filmworks website. So, until next time, when I’ll be watching the horizon for evil biker gangs, remember that the best movies are bad movies.
