Now I know this section is aimed at taking out our much deserved anger at Hollywood, but that's not going to happen with the christening of this part of the Rogue Cinema Forums. (At least, not yet.)
Now I had low expectations when going in to see "The Longest Yard." I'm a true believer that the Hollywood remake is an unnecessary evil and truly shows how unoriginal America's studio system has truly become. But try as I might, I just couldn't even remotely dislike the latest Adam Sandler film.
The Story: In this remake of the Burt Reynold's classic, "The Longest Yard,' Adam Sandler plays the lead role of an ex-football star (whose girlfriend is played by an amazingly busty Courtney Cox) that ends up on the wrong side of the law and is sent to a correctional facility in Texas. Once there, he is forced to create a prison football team to play a game against the guards. Will Adam Sandler and his motley crew of prison buddies win the day? (Well... what do you think?)
My Thoughts: This was actually a pretty funny movie and is sure to deliver a good chunk of entertainment to mainstream moviegoers. (Star Wars III and Madagascar watch out! You have actual competition here!) The film's villains are straight out of an 80's action/adventure film, the jokes come at a rapid pace, and the football action will make you cheer. The only thing that seemed really out of place in this film was the rather violent death of one of its lead characters (trying to avoid using names or create major spoilers). It truly puts a damper on the fun and may even pluck at your heart strings if you've been overdosing on estrogen. (<--- You'll get that comment if you do see this movie.) All in all, this is a fun football/comedy/action romp and I'll actually recommend it. Just turn off your brain and have fun! _________________ Jordan Garren
