One Toho classic and one (possible) Toho disaster hit DVD next Tuesday. KAIJU FANS REJOICE!

ATRAGON
The inhabitants of the underwater civilization of MU feel that it's time to expand their little empire onto the Japanese mainland. Only the fearless members of an elite crew and their flying submarine, the Atragon, can save Japan and the world from the ancient invaders! This film features the first (and probably longest) appearance by Manda! Not sure about extras on this one, but Media Blasters' Tokyo Shock label usually delivers the goods. At the least the film is in widescreen with English subtitles and that's good enough for me. (If you really don't want to wait, order "Atragon" now at www.videodaikaiju.com!)

GODZILLA FINAL WARS
FINALLY! Instead of doing a wide US theatrical release, Sony is putting this bad boy on DVD before the holidays. This is temporarily Godzilla's last outing and features about a dozen fellow daikaiju. The storyline borrows generously from a variety of older Godzilla and Toho sci-fi/fantasy films and is directed by Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus, Down to Hell, Alive). And there are TWO big surprises in store for those of you that buy this DVD: The film is in widescreen and comes with both the English dubbed and English subtitled versions. The main surprise is that the subtitles finally live up to their name. (This is the translation that all the other Godzilla releases SHOULD have gotten!) No DUBTITLES! YAY! Secondly, there will be a "B-Roll" extra that features some footage of the monster battle scenes being shot.

Not satisfying enough you say? Then head over to www.videodaikaiju.com and order their definitive 4 DVD-R set of "Godzilla: Final Wars!" Disc 1 is the film; Disc 2 and 3 are full of awesome extras (not sure if there are subtitles for the extra features); Disc 4 is the official soundtrack for the film!
