The two DVD set of Lucio Fulci's "ZOMBI 2" will arrive at stores on July 27th. It may end up being rather pricy, but by golly it'll be worth it. For those of you who don't know, "Zombi 2" was made by Fulci to capitalize on the success of "Dawn of the Dead" (which is known as "Zombi" in Italy). When it was released here in America by Anchor Bay, the title was changed to simply "ZOMBIE." And if you still own that release, it's time to sell it and pick this baby up next month!
Check out all these extras:

DISC ONE:
• Newly remastered widescreen transfer
• Audio commentary by actor Ian McCullough
• “Food for the Worms,” a 13-minute featurette interviewing opening-scene zombie Captain Haggerty
• Production stills, posters and lobby card gallery
• Outtakes
• Original ZOMBI 2 trailer, plus trailers for ZOMBIE 3, ZOMBI 4: AFTER DEATH and ZOMBI 5: KILLING BIRDS, FLESH FOR THE BEAST, FLESH EATER, EROTIC NIGHTS OF THE LIVING DEAD, ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST, BURIAL GROUND and BIO-ZOMBIE

DISC TWO:
• “Building a Better Zombie,” a 98-minute documentary featuring interviews with producer Fabrizio De Angelis, makeup FX creator Giannetto De Rossi, cinematographer Sergio Salvati, composer Fabio Frizzi, makeup artists Maurizio Trani and Rosario Prestopino, camera operator Franco Bruni and hairstylist Mirella DeRossi Sforza
• “Raising the Dead,” a six-minute featurette interviewing production and costume designer Walter Patriarca
• “An Evening With Dakar”: Actor Dakar, who plays the character of Lucas, sings!

In related news, on July 24th, SPOOKYDUDES.COM and Endless Mountain Theater (Route 6, Scranton-Carbondale Highway) will be hosting a DVD release party for "Zombi 2." The festivities start at 10 PM and then at midnight, the original 35mm print of "ZOMBIE" will be played on the big screen.

I'm sorry but I don't see why everyone gets such a hard on over these Italian horror directors. I own and I've seen several fims from Bava, Fulci and others and I just wasn't impressed. They all looked like cheap 70's & 80's horror. Give me a good ol' blood soaked Herschell Gordon Lewis flick over those any day of the week. At least his movies are fun.

Well I agree on two things. 1. Many of the Italian horror/zombie film directors get way too much credit for their work. 2. I've only seen "Blood Feast," but just from that single movie I know that H.G. Lewis rules!

Seriously though, "Zombi 2" (aka "Zombie") is really cool for multiple reasons. One them being an original and very well choreographed underwater battle between a shark and a zombie. I'm a bit of a fan of this flick so the emminent 2-Disc set is really great news. Not as good as hearing about the 4-Disc set of "Dawn of the Dead" but still pretty damn cool.

I don't know if I have that one or not. I have a few italian zombie flicks I think, but I'm not sure if that's one of them. I'll have to look.

Isn't Blue Underground releasing this? I liked Zombi for what it was: a pretty cheesy but really entertaining cheapo Italian Horror Flick of the late 70's. Gotta love that groovy muzak and the zombie vs. shark attack is probably my favorite scene in the whole movie. Anybody seen any of Fulci's early Giallos?

Actually Jesse, for some very odd reason, Blue Underground is releasing "ZOMBIE : Special Edition" the very same day as Shriek Show puts out they're 2-Disc "Zombi 2" set. The Blue Underground disc is the cheaper alternative but this is really mind-boggling. I would've figured that Shriek Show would have exlusive rights to release the film, but I guess that's not the case. The only other Fulci films I've seen are "Gates of Hell" and "The Beyond." I wasn't impressed with either one.

We should start a distribution company called Rogue Cinema and release public domain flicks on DVD. Smile

Yeah! Because there aren't enough copies of "Night of the Living Dead" and "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" floating around on store shelves. Razz

Actually I was thinking more along the lines of releasing things like From Hell It Came and movies like that that haven't seen a release yet.

Hmmmm I hear that the BU version will have better quality but there'll be more extras on the other version.....so which should I buy, if I ever decide to get off my lazy ass and get this movie?

And about the new film company, you do the work and I can be your financial advisor. Wink

If money's an issue, get the Blue Underground release, but personally I'd grab the 2-Disc set Jesse.
