The Protector has finally made its way to US screens (long gone is the film's meaningful title, Tom-Yum-Goong, roughly translated: Honor of the Beast) thanks to the evil Weinstein brothers. The film has been butchered, with over a half hour cut out, and most of the original music has been replaced with music by the RZA (WHY?!). While still fun to watch, the movie is completely nonsensical now and I'm delivering a full-fledged middle finger at the Weinsteins. You guys are fucking assholes! DIE! You've taken something I loved and you've chopped it to bits, repackaged it, and threw it to the unwashed masses for consumption. DOES YOUR GREED HAVE NO END?!

Jet Li's Fearless on the other hand has fared remarkably well and doesn't seem to have been butchered by editors and is in fact subtitled, not dubbed which was a huge plus. Jet Li plays a once cocky warrior who suffers a great tragedy, but eventually rises once again into the public eye to fight for the people of China, and prove to the world that China is not the "Sick Man of Asia." This movie tells a beautiful story, the martial arts scenes are awesome, and Jet Li gracefully steps away from his long history of "wuxia" films. While I'm sure he'll continue doing action films for some time, Jet has claimed that this is the last period piece/kung-fu film. I probably shouldn't say this but......

You can get the uncut, unraped, Tom Yum Goong AND Jet Li's Fearless on DVD (Region 0, legit Hong Kong DVDs) on E-Bay at this E-Bay store:

I"m ordering my copy of Fearless this weekend! Wink

I have copies of both movies, unedited of course, but have not watched either the full way through. I've seen the majority of The Protector though, and it looks like a nice follow-up to Ong Bak. I can't really bring myself to check out Fearless though. Ever since Croutching Tiger Hidden Dragon and all of the overblown Wuxia flicks from Hong Kong have all become dramatic epics and such, I haven't been able to really get myself into them as much. Still looks like a classic, and can't wait to check it out.

Fearless was great Joshy. I didn't care much for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" either, but "Fearless" (and "House of Flying Daggers" for that matter) are awesome! Nathan Jones (THE BIG FUCKING DUDE FROM TOM-YUM-GOONG) is in Fearless as Hercules O' Brien and he gives Jet a run for his money. WATCH FEARLESS!
