Okay, Duane, here's my report on how it went. We just wrapped up a great meet! I'll display pictures, below. For some background: Some of us internet buds thought it would be a good idea to put faces to the names and have a meeting. Las Vegas seemed to be a popular choice, and since I live here, my wife, Sheila, and I have hosted the first two meets.

The idea was to get together, have fun and learn something in the process. Some people even slept over, for the whole weekend - kind of like the ultimate slumber party for filmmakers! Plus, it was a good way to save people some money, since some of them came from far away.

Kathy Fitzgerald flew in on Tuesday, from Boston. Tracy Crockett and his girlfriend, Kara, flew in on Thursday, from Texas. Jason Kelly arrived Friday afternoon, from northern CA.

Some people, like Richard McClure and his wife, wanted to get the "Strip" experience, so they stayed in the big hotels and then dropped by. Most everyone else was local, including some Las Vegas newbies, Rick Shipley, from Maryland and JP Nickel, from Pittsburgh. This was a great way to get them networking, in a new town, quickly.

The meet got underway, Friday, at 6:00pm. Inside, Kathy played RING OF THE BISHOP, while we had hors d' ouerves. We started a fire and projected more movies, out back, including the excellent short, GRIM and WHY WE HAD TO KILL BITCH, by JP Nickel.

The night time temps were perfect. Tracy Crockett admitted to getting a chill, Saturday night, which was good, because daytime temps were hitting the 100s.

Okay, we're here to learn. Saturday, people started showing up for presentations, around 2:00pm. I started with a quick blood demo, because you can't have enough of those. I even showed how you can get it out of your carpet!! The key is to act quickly.

John Perez did a makeup demo on bruising.

Tracy Crockett discussed crosspromoting and distribution.

Bart Anderson demoed DV Rack and some other programs, including a particle generator.

Kelly Johnston showed how he achieved cloning and gun effects, with After Effects.

Robert Kebbles, Stanley Freeman and Keith Ford covered Airsoft weapons.

CJ Hyatt covered the advantages of real versus fake weapons, on set.

Vaughn Thomas discussed camera technology and upcoming 3-D developments.

JP Nickel discussed actors and production.

I demoed a green screen effect. (The model SUV)

Like last year, the demos ran past 8:00pm, making us push back our indie movie premiere to past 9:00pm.

We showed some scenes from the upcoming, THE AWAKENING, followed by the trailer for THE ANCIENT. The main event was Chris Downs' THE SHUNNED. This was a horror western flick, shot near Kansas City, I believe. Definitely a slasher movie, with a western twist. I was impressed with the way the movie captured the time period, complete with saloon and outhouses. Around 5:00 o'clock in the morning, I called it a night and turned in.

A few hours, later.... Sunday, we attended an 11:30am matinee of REVENGE OF THE SITH. Then it was off to a pool party and barbecue, at Sheila's parents' house. About 10:00pm, we headed back to our place for more fire and we rented SKINNED DEEP, which was not very good. (I'm being nice!)

Monday, I asked Tracy Crockett if he would like to have the role of an angry neighbor, in THE AWAKENING (one of our few pick up scenes, left). We shot for about 2½ hours and came back and packed Tracy and Kara, for the airport. That left Jason, Kathy and I, so we rented the Asian movie, INFECTION, which was downright creepy.

Tuesday, Kathy and Jason left. The meet was over. I think we were all pretty tired from the late nights, drinking, movies and fire adventures! About 38 people showed up for the meet; 42, if you include my parent in-laws and kids, who were there for STAR WARS and pool, on Sunday. It was a great experience.

INDIEMEET PICS:

For one of the demos, I green screened a model truck, to make it look like a girl was throwing it in the air. These first two shots set up the model:

Here is the plate shot, with her pretending to pick it up:

Truck keyed into the scene:

Lifting the truck:

Throwing the truck:

My hand in the scene:

Here are pics from the rest of the Vegas IndieMeet. (This first one is for Jason, cause he loves how stupid Greg Parker acts, in LORD OF THE DEAD - one of the movies that we screened.)

Jason, looking cool.

(I like Richard McClure's expression in this one...)

Starting off with a blood demo. (I mean, what else gets a meet going?)

People watching demos.

We projected movies, out back.

My wife (the chef), Sheila, outdid herself, this year. CJ Hyatt gets to sample the goods.

CJ watches a demo.

We had a fire in the backyard, but this isn't it! We were conducting a "controlled" burn on some of the surrounding weeds...

Denny Morales (Vegas Indies TV)

Fortunately, the weather didn't get too hot, until after the meet.

Gene Kelly (Las Vegas IndieClub leader) and his wife.

Jason gets ecstatic. :>)

Makeup artist, John Perez, turns Kara into a battered wife.

JP Nickel & Greg Parker.

JP & Vladimir get a tour of my "stuff."

Kara & Mike by the fire.

Keith Ford demonstrates a 9mm handgun.

Robert Kebbles demos an assault rifle.

Stanley Freeman demos his Airsoft M-60.

How the guns look in the movie.

Mike Conway and Tracy Crockett (Unspeakable Mag)

Greg Parker is still hungry!

Sheila by the fire.

Rick Shipley & Tracy.

Cameraman, Vaughn Thomas, gives his demo.

Kathy (Xena) flew in from Boston.

Kathy, Sheila & Norman Deer.

Jake, Heather and Kelly.

The other JP, Jean Paul Mullaly. (What are the odds of having two John Pauls, out of 38 people?)

Kelly Johnston takes in a smoke.

Sheila catches some sun.

Most of these pictures were taken by Kelly Johnston. Some others were grabbed from Xena's video camera.

Awesome, thanks Mike! I was going to run it as an article, but with so many pics and the way it's laid out I think I'll just leave the post as it is here. Thanks so much for posting this. Smile
