First Ever BitTorrent-Only Feature Film Release
Burlington, VT – December 8, 2009 - Self Helpless is the first feature length film ever to employ a specialized promotional campaign surrounding a BitTorrent-only release.

Self Helpless is a feature length independent comedy film. The film features the acting debut of hip hop star Devin the Dude. Self Helpless was recently nominated for the Best New Filmmaker award at the 2009 Queens International Film Festival.

In early 2010, Self Helpless will be released exclusively as a free download on various BitTorrent sites. After a 7 day BitTorrent-only run, the film will be commercially released on DVD, Blu-Ray, and High Definition Digital Download.

“Downloading is only a problem for big studios that produce low quality, mass-marketed films,” says the film’s executive producer, Patrick Cassidy. “Self Helpless is a unique and hilarious film, sort of like Family Guy meets Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Downloaders are the new taste-makers in the entertainment world. We know that they will support a quality film that is targeted at them, and that is what we have created with Self Helpless.”

The film’s creators are currently engaged in a pre-release promotional campaign. Self Helpless has screened in a series of one-night-only engagements at select theaters and colleges around the Northeast. The Self Helpless team is also working independently with bloggers and members of the BitTorrent community to publicize the release of their film.

While major studios spend huge sums of money fighting against piracy, the creators of Self Helpless are actually trying to build a buzz around the release of their BitTorrent. The stated goal of the creators of Self Helpless is to become the most downloaded comedy film of all time. They are working towards a benchmark of 100,000 downloads during the 7 day BitTorrent-only run.
