PRESS RELEASE
FUGUE, a psychological thriller starring newcomer Abigail Mittel and Richard Gunn (“Dexter”), is now available on iTunes and DVD!
After moving in with her boyfriend, a young woman comes to believe her new home is haunted. But when she discovers the last eight months have been erased from her memory, she must unearth what caused the condition … before the past destroys her present.
A gothic, Hitchcockian thriller in the vein of Paranormal Activity and Rosemary’s Baby, FUGUE is an ode to smart, atmospheric haunted house films of decades past. But FUGUE updates the classic ghost formula with an edgy, psychological spin.
The film has screened at film festivals around the country, winning Best Horror Film at the 2010 Mississippi International Film Festival. “FUGUE already makes my Top Ten List for 2011,” raves Planet of Terror. AllVoices declares “The film is enthralling,” while Rogue Cinema calls the film “A very tight and haunting thriller.” Horror.com agrees, “FUGUE is worth a look.”
“FUGUE starts out as a haunted house tale,” says director/producer Barbara Stepansky (Hurt), “but a scientific discovery gives the movie an extremely modern and uniquely breathtaking twist. From that point onward, the audience has to ask themselves the same questions about reality as our heroine.”
FUGUE was produced by Hive Mind, an exciting new production company founded by Stepansky and fellow USC alum Matt Harry. Hive Mind specializes in smart, well-made thrillers and is currently developing several feature-length projects.
Stepansky has Master’s degrees in Film from both the University of Southern California and the American Film Institute. She’s won several awards for her projects, including a Student Emmy, the Grand Jury Prize at the USA Film Festival, and the Directors Guild of America Student Film Award.
The film was written and produced by Harry, whose writing has received accolades from the Austin Film Festival, the Script PIMP Competition, and the highly acclaimed Nicholl Fellowships.
If you’re in the Los Angeles area, there will be a DVD signing to commemorate the release on Saturday, September 10 at 4 PM at Dark Delicacies in Burbank (darkdel.com). Abigail Mittel, Barbara Stepansky, Matt Harry, and others will be available to sign copies and answer questions about the process of making the film. FUGUE is currently available for purchase on Amazon and the film’s website, www.fuguethefilm.com, and it can be downloaded exclusively at iTunes http://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/fugue/id458260994
It will premiere on other digital outlets throughout the rest of the year.
