Press Release

Nov. 6, 2012

Shadowy Souls Productions proudly presents a film so terrifying that it just may kill you.
Writer/director Michael Rigler and producer/star Tara Manuel are set to deliver a unique piece of cinematic history with the impending release of their wholly independent, no-budget feature “The Tentacle's Claw”. Filmed on location in Corner Brook, Newfoundland with a talented cast of local actors, this film is sure to entretain. Keep watching for details on how you can order your own copy of The Tentacle's Claw.

The movie was shot during the summer of 2010 and the husband and wife team have been shepherding the film through post-production – in addition to Rigler’s full-time job as a television director and the time he and Manuel spend on their original, travelling shadow puppet theatre shows.

To bring this unique film to life, the pair raised $1,242 by staging a B-Movie Cabaret fundraiser. Using their own digital video production equipment, they managed to shoot the film around the schedules of the volunteer cast – almost all of whom have full time jobs.

The result is a unique tongue-in-cheek horror film that is fit for the whole family.

“I’m sure we would have used gore and splatter if we could,” Rigler said “But we couldn’t afford it.”

“We made the movie because we both love cheesy old B-Movies and we knew it was the one genre we could afford to work in. Because honestly, all you need is some know-how, and a lot of enthusiasm to bring your idea to life. I’m also very fortunate to live in a place where there are so many talented people around who gave of themselves so freely to help create this film. The final product is a very odd, campy movie that still makes me laugh every time I see it.”

The husband and wife team are always finding fresh ways to combine their diverse talents and while The Tentacle’s Claw is the duo’s first feature film, Rigler said there are more to come.

“I’ve got four or five more scripts waiting to be developed,” he said. “Now we fully intend to use The Tentacle’s Claw as leverage to develop more of our original script ideas.

“We’re trying to use all the modern tools that are available to stay based in this beautiful, wild part of the world and still create work that has international appeal. And if all else fails, we’ll just scrape enough dough together to make another piece of insanity.”

The film is slated for release in January of 2012.
