I finally got around to watching Shiri. And, it has to be one one of the better realistic non gun-fu action movies to come out in the past few years. I was wondering if anyone else had seen it yet and their thoughts on it.... _________________ Danny Runion

If you go into Shiri with the wrong expectations, it's really easy to walk out quite angry. Before seeing it, I was actually expecting some 'gun-fu', but as dissapointed as I at first felt with the film, I still recognized it's strong points. It has grown on me over time. South Korea right now are doing everything Hollywood does, but so completely better. Hard to believe, but their romantic comedies are quite amazing. Shiri is like a combination of all the better elements of the average Hollywood action/suspense film, but with much more heart. The characters are well written and we actually care about them after the whole thing, which makes it all the more sad. It's not quite an 'amazing' film, but it's definitely worth owning. That's my take on it at least. _________________ Josh Samford

Hmmm I did like the story and thought it had a great and poignant ending, but the action scenes weren't really anything special in my opinion and I think i ended up fast forwarding through some of them near the end.

Yeah, if one is looking for action, Shiri isn't the best place to search. The coolest thing in the film was when that one person blew themselves up, but that was about it. More of a plot driven movie than anything else.
And hey, Jesse, perhaps a silly question, but you didn't come in from my forum did you? You remind me of someone from my site a little. If I'm wrong, sorry for mistaking you. If I'm right... "the bird flies at midnight", he'll know what that means... _________________ Josh Samford

Man, who the hell needs a plot anyway when there's gore to be had? _________________ Duane L. Martin Webmaster - B-Movie Central Editor / Webmaster / Staff Writer - Rogue Cinema
Shiri does have the woman who blows her head off Scanners style. _________________ Danny Runion

Shiri is a great film IMO. I have the same opinion as Josh (can I call you Pantsman? Josh ain't the same ). I feel asia as a whole does everything better than Hollywood.

Haha, sure, pantsman is fine. Josh is the real name though, Duane wanted me to keep my name as Josh so people could put the articles together with the poster. Indeed, not as sexy as pantsman, what can you do.
And indeed, Hollywood +1 is probably the best way to describe Shiri I like to think that I prefer Asian films more because they provide a fresh look on even the oldest genres, if only because of cultural differences. A breath of fresh air even when the film would normally suck hard if produced in Hollywood. _________________ Josh Samford

Speaking of suck, if you've seen the previews for I, Robot you know what hollywood is churning out right now. Imagine how cool that movie could have been if it had been a Japanese film and if it DIDN'T have Will Smith in it. _________________ Duane L.
