The 5th annual Independent Film Festival of Boston has opened its call for entries. The 6-day festival will screen over 70 films including narrative features, documentary features, short films, experimental films, and animation. Over 20,000 people attended the festival in 2006 and more are expected this year. Accepted feature filmmakers are provided travel via JetBlue Airlines and feature and short filmmakers are offered luxury accommodations at Boston's finest hotels. There are nightly parties and a selection of interesting panel discussions.
Named the best film festival in the Boston area by the leading Boston newspapers and by the book The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide.
Past guests of the festival include Steve Buscemi, John Waters, Chris Cooper, Lili Taylor, Bob Odenkirk, Bill Pullman, Albert Maysles, Melvin Van Peebles, Dylan Baker, Robert Vaughn, Illeana Douglas, Danny Huston, Noam Chomsky, SNL's Fred Armisen, the Daily Show's Rob Corddry, Arrested Development's Michael Cera, as well as dozens and dozens of film's best young and up-and-coming filmmakers.
Six of Filmmaker Magazine's "25 Filmmakers To Watch" from 2006 were in attendance at the festival this past year. Distributors in attendance in recent years include 7th Art Releasing, Sundance Channel, IFC, and Thinkfilm.
Please see the festival website for the list of all films shown in the last four years, quotes from press and filmmakers, hundreds of photos from the festival, and much more.
