I watched Destory all Monsters the other day for the first time, and while there was more than the usual amount of kaiju action, the movie itself was just kinda lame because they cut in stock footage of some of the monsters and only about five of the monsters did any real fighting and the rest were all either just kinda hanging around for effect or out of sight completely. I have both the original DVD and the new special edition one and neither one has anything special on them and the really crappy thing is that neither one has any chapter stops. I was expecting more, so I think that's why I was disappointed. It wasn't a horribly bad or boring movie. _________________ Duane L. Well for a giant monster movie, it's very ambitious Duane. It's amazing they had so many creatures in it at all and yes it sucks that Varan, Manda, Mothra, Kumonga, and Baragon didn't see much action. Varan is forever the underdog among kaiju stars as he probably won't see the light of day in another Toho film.... EVER! The rest I listed have been given a good amount of treatment over the years (Manda was seen briefly in "Atragon" and I think will be in "Godzilla: Final Wars." Mothra is just plain overused. Kumonga will be in "Godzilla: Final Wars" and can also be seen in "Son of Godzilla" and in "Godzilla's Revenge." Baragon starred in "Frankenstein Conquers the World" and took a major beating from Godzilla in "GMK.") Anyway, I'm ordering a copy of the original Japanese version of "Destroy All Monsters" from Video Daikaiju (sometime next month). It will have chapters stops, the original Japanese trailer, and some cut scenes as well. If only ADV could pull off the same thing.... _________________ Jordan Garren

I'll tell you who's overused...Giddorah (Monster Zero). That thing shows up in more kaiju movies than any other monster besides godzilla I think. I get tired of seeing him. You know which one looks the coolest I think is probably Spiga, but they never use him hardly. I love the web thing and the way the legs move. They did a great job with it. _________________ Duane L. Yeah Ghidorah (aka King Ghidorah, aka Ghidrah) is terribly overused and has been in roughly nine kaiju films to date (Mothra in comparison has been in more). The Spiega (aka Kumonga) is very cool and is one of the great achievements in old school kaiju special effects. I still think the damn spider should've eaten Minya (aka Minilla) in "Son of Godzilla." _________________ Jordan Garren

Well I think they could have done a better job on Minya. I mean seriously, he looks like a total dork. He reminds me of Mr. Hankey's son Peanut. _________________ Duane L. Martin Webmaster - B-Movie Central Editor / Webmaster / Staff Writer - Rogue Cinema

I was gonna say he looked more like the offspring of Godzilla and the Pillsbury doughboy but uh.... sure that works. _________________ Jordan Garren

Hahahahaha! Spiga could poke him in the stomach and say, "Hey hey...poppin' fresh!" and Minya could giggle. _________________ Duane L. Martin Webmaster - B-Movie Central Editor / Webmaster / Staff Writer - Rogue Cinema
