Anybody a fan of this genre? Over the past few months, i've seen all of these films (except for Death Wish, which was a few years ago) and liked them alot. I would say that the best one out of these is Freeze Me by director Takashi Ishii and the most brutal/powerful one is I Spit On Your Grave (but Irreversible is close in power not because of its violent scenes but the ideas presented as the movie goes on). I really want to see Lady Snowblood and am expecting a dvdr of that sometime soon, so that'll be another one to add to the list.

Last House on the Left
Freeze Me
Irreversible
Death Wish
I Spit On Your Grave

Revenge I'm good with but there's something about rape that just makes me feel really bad even though I know it's fake and it's just a movie. I just can't feel comfortable watching a rape scene. The death wish movies were good, and there's another pair of revenge movies called The Exterminator and The Exterminator II that were good as well.

No, not a fan, but since the topic has been brought up, here are two films on the subject that have not been mentioned: "Ms. 45" and "Lipstick."

I've never even heard of Ms. 45 and I'm pretty sure I've heard of lipstick but I've never seen it. What are they about and who's in them?

Ms. 45 is an early Abel Ferrara movie, haven't seen it yet, but have been looking for it.

Me, I've got no problem with rape scenes. I have only seen one rape scene that I thought was mildly disturbing, and that was a gangrape in Cannibal Holocaust. Other than that, scenes of the act rarely have any effect on me.

I wasn't aware that Freeze Me was a rape/revenge movie, one more reason to check it out. Ishii seems like an interesting director. Evil Dead Trap was crap if you ask me, but Gonin was absolutely amazing.

Last House on the Left, I Spit on Your Grave and House on the Edge of the Park are the tops for me. Edge isn't a conventional rape/revenge flick, but I think it counts. Right now I'm waiting on that release of They Call Her One Eye, I just know that one is going to be great.

If this post seems more like a stream-of-thought blathering rather than a well thought out post, then you would be correct, cause it is Wink

I think the reason it bothers me is because I can't stop thinking like what if it was my wife or my sister. Confused

Well, I have no sister nor even a girlfriend, so perhaps that is it. Then again, chances are it's that I'm a heartless, uncaring, emotionally detached shell of what a man should be. Yeah, I think that might factor into things Laughing

PostPosted: Sat Apr 02, 2005 1:07 pm    Post subject: Rape/Revenge flick, in home marathon! Reply with quote

I actually had sort of a rape/revenge movie marathon not long ago. I have a good 3 dozen movies or so that I haven't watched yet and one night I had a themed marathon. For an entire evening, I watched four films: "Last House on the Left," "I Spit on Your Grave," "Don't Mess With My Sister," and "Deadly Daphne's Revenge."

LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT
Wes Craven's directorial debut is still quite a shocker by today's standards and it's one of my favorite films to inflict on people who think they've seen in all. (Obviously I show them this movie because they actually haven't seen or heard of it.) What happens to the film's two lead victims is just... wrong! Their four captors (led by David Hess, king of cinematic killers and rapists from the 70's!) rape them, beat them, humiliate them ("Piss your pants!"), and finally kill them. Then you have the revenge part of the film in which the parents of one of the dead girls discover what happened to their beloved daughter and systematically kill the four responsible. Probably the most memorable scene here is in which dear old ma (a total MILF if I've ever seen one) takes one of the killers down to a secluded pond and pleasures him orally... and just as he's really getting into it and nearing his climax, she bites down on his love-pipe, shaking her head side to side! She actually bites off part of his "Jimmy-junk" (as Josh would call it) and then spits it into the pond as she washes her face off! That's freakin' twisted! I LOVE IT! (Of course I wince every time I see that scene! Craziness!)

I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE
Meir Zarchi's "I Spit on Your Grave" is very troubling to those of us with a conscience. The lead woman in the film is a writer who's trying to get away from it all, and rents out a secluded summer place in the middle of Hickville, USA. However, she soon wishes that she went elsewhere. A good chunk of the film's first half is just watching this poor girl get beaten and raped repeatedly, then left for dead. This film does not glamorize rape at all and you almost feel guilty that you're even watching it happen. (Just remember, it's only a movie, only a movie, only a movie.....) And after the girl surives her deal and heals her physical wounds (the mental and emotional damage may never heal), she begins to knock off each of the four men who took the happiness, simplicity, and innocence from her life. She manages to kill all four of her defilers, with the leader getting the shaft in the death department. The scene I mentioned above from "Last House on the Left" does not compare to the what happens to the lead rapist in this film. He has his penis quickly lopped off in a tub with a HUGE knife. ("Oh baby.... that felt so good it almost hurt.") He's completely oblivious to what's missing until a mini-geyser of blood starts erupting from his crotchal region. The film's "heroine" promptly exits the bathroom, locks the door, and listens intently as the poor bastard inside (well... he DID deserve it I guess) screams and bangs on the door. ("I can't stop the bleeding! Oh God! OH GOD!") Ok that's enough... moving on then.

DON'T MESS WITH MY SISTER
What the hell is this?! No rape, a tiny bit o' misguided revenge... this is NOT what I intended it to be. This is another Zeir Marchi film and it wasn't what I expected at all. In this one, a Sean Penn wanna bee cheats on his bitchy wife with a belly dancer after rescuing her from a bloated, rich, pervert, whom Sean Penn clone manages to beat to death. The murder and the fling with the bellydancer soon throw the young man's world into chaos. Now he has to contend with his wife's two overprotective brothers who hand him a few ass-whoopings and then well... the film really goes nowhere. It was kind of a disapointment, but it held my interest throughout because well.... it has a lot of character development and I was hoping to see this guy's life just crash down around him until he either died or went on a killing spree... either way would've made for a proper ending to the film. Instead there really isn't an ending; absolutely no closure and a lot of loose ends.

Deadly Daphne's Revenge
The final film in my marathon, this one actually as a rape scene in it involving a Kenny Rogers look-alike. (And like Kenny Rogers this guy is a raging alcohlic. HA! Wink So what follows is the girl's bloody revenge spree right? NOPE! The girl isn't even the Daphne from the title; Daphne is an escaped "mulatto" lunatic who only pops up every now and again to remind us that the movie is supposed to be about her. Instead the film follows the raped girl, her attempt to sue her rapists, and the evil lengths to which Kenny Rogers will go to shut her up. At the end, Daphne kills Kenny Rogers and avenges herself and the raped girl.... yeah, WHAT?! "Deadly Daphne's Revenge" is not your ordinary rape/revenge flick because it doesn't deliver on the revenge part (at least not from the person we'd expect it). This movie is more of a morality play that ends up being really preachy (against careless, Kenny Rogers look alikes who rape and terrify young hot blondes). Still I had fun watching it but walked away feeling cheated.

So that was my marathon, and I walked away with a new appreciation (i.e. FEAR) of the opposite sex. Hell truly hath no fury than a woman's scorn!

Thriller: A Cruel Picture was a pretty good rape/revenge flick. Slow moving and has some really art-house pretension in the latter half (yes, I'm thinking of the four or five minute slow motion fight scene) - but it delivers what is expected and really just stays in your mind. If hardcore pornographic sex scenes scare you away, the hairy bastards in this flick will make you gag - as full penetration is shown. Not a big deal if you're past cinematic puberty; but something everyone always talks about.

Death Wish and I Spit On Your Grave are two of my favorites! I won't let my wife watch I Spit though, it makes me uncomfortable, I'm not sure what a woman would think of it. Although her revenge is SWEET! Cannibal Holocaust just came out as a special edition, maybe I'll pick that one up.

I need to pick up that CH disc too. Big fan and having it in good quality WITH special features... it's something I have wanted for so long... Crying or Very sad

And I Spit... I really don't know what the general female opinion would be. I mean, SOME say it's a feminist film, but me, it's hard for me to see past the twenty minute rape sequence Wink

Yeah. It's hard to reconcile calling it a feminist film and the 20 minute rape scene!

Well... it sure did show she was strong in her endurance Laughing Wait, that might have been a bit over the line... Wink

Anyway, I caught Ms. 45 a long time back. Interesting little flick, classic Ferrara. Kind of like Carrie, meets Ferrara's first film Driller Killer Laughing

Ah same here. I can stomach anything but these rape scenes simply disturb me in another way. Damn!
