TOMI FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2008 LOCATION DATES AND
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

***

Zeitgeist Theatre New Orleans February 14-16 2008

Submissions Open September 10th, 2007

Early Deadline October 10th, 2007

Regular Deadline November 1st, 2007

Official Deadline December 1st, 2007

New York, NY (Sept 10th, 2007) – The TOMI Film
Festival has announced today the location, dates and
call for entries for the First Annual TOMI Film
Festival. As this is the film festival that goes to
the people, our 2008 destination is New Orleans,
Louisiana.

“With so many implications and divided opinions on the
state of New Orleans” says Co-Founder Tonisha Johnson,
TOMI Film Festival found it pertinent to begin with
supporting a healing community“.

‘Truth for a Change’ is our 2008 TOMI Film Festival
theme. A title befitting our first destination: New
Orleans. It can be taken two ways: Truth for a Change;
There have been many theories regarding Hurricane
Katrina and the destruction of New Orleans. Despite
the rumors and possible government roles New Orleans
has been left dilapidated with little help rebuilding
and no help resurrecting the glory that New Orleans
once held. TOMI Film Festival seeks to enact Truth for
a Change: a positive recourse of actions that will not
just leave New Orleans with one weekend of financial
resurgence, but a tangible example of what people with
the same like minds can do…together.

Held at the newly-constructed Zeitgeist
Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center the 100+ plush-seated
theatre is excellent for our intimate style film
festival.

“At the time of our festival, the NBA® All Star
Weekend will occur as well” says Co-Founder Tonisha
Johnson. “We felt this was a great opportunity to
expose our business film festival because the All Star
Weekend attracts a crowd of over 400,000 people per
year. And these aren’t just the locals. They are a
world-wide audience. That is a perfect solution for
our film festival. TOMI Film Festival moves from place
to place every year exposing filmmakers projects to a
massive audience that normally the filmmaker would
need several venues in different cities to fulfill.
Because of our unique way of marketing the filmmaker,
TOMI Film Festival acts as the distributor.”

“It’s insane how the idea never occurred to anyone.
The idea of having a theatre filled with people from
all across the country; in one room no less serves as
the best possible audience. The word independent has
been blurred when it comes to making films. Our
filmmakers have extremely low budgets so they can’t
afford publicity, marketing consultants and such to
push their projects. They’re hoping someone takes a
look at it and gets it going in the right direction.
This is we’re TOMI Film Festival comes in”.

“As a journalist I’ve built a great rapport with
reputable companies, some with contacts a mile wide,
other’s with contacts five lines long. But it’s their
drive that peaks my interests. Their overall
achievement wins me over”.

“People just take a look at a star and just see them.
But that isn’t all there is to it. So many people have
gotten them to that point. A tremendous amount of team
work took place in order to get those photo shoots,
studio time, interviews etc done. It’s a job that
should be glorified just as much as the ‘product’ that
is pushed. Your wanting to purchase that item or
idolize that singer/filmmaker/dancer etc because of
what they are all about. Well it’s their team of
people that helped to mold their careers. And not just
the clothes or the fabulous hair; lots of work and
effort goes into the entire package from Key art
design to album cover. It’s a serious job. We at TOMI
Film Festival want to form a relationship between the
hardworking publicists, marketing consultants,
financial advisors, etc and the filmmaker”.

“Small business is big business. People are taking
charge of their own destiny’s and by doing such their
starting their own businesses. But how do those
businesses obtain reputable clients? Trendy networking
places like MySpace spark a vast majority of talent.
But is it viable? Established media tries to field the
best possible future client and in turn you get a
series of people who don’t respond or fulfill their
part of the bargain. Sometimes independent spells
trouble. You can’t just be a closet artist. You have
to be doing something about it. And these upstart
companies are looking for real talent to push. They
need you just as much as you need them. We develop
relationships between the two”.

“Some may question us and claim that we are too small
and unable to compete with the big dogs of film
festivals. For TOMI Film Festival, we’re a business
film festival. No one can compete with us. We’re
unique to the world”.
