For fans of the live-action films from Steve Wang, you can finally retire those worn out VHS tapes. On August 17th, New Line Home Video is releasing "The Guyver" and "Guyver 2: Dark Hero." The first film will be the Director's Cut and will have remastered picture and 5.1 surround sound. The sequel will also have remastered picture and sound. No word on extras, but I'm damned glad that these will be available mere days after I turn 21! _________________ Jordan Garren

You know....
I was immensely excited when I finally got both movies. "Guyver 2" has officially the better of the two because the half-assed director tampered with the first film. New footages is added in that just plain sucks and adds nothing to the story (though I have to admit that it's funny to see Michael Berryman trying to be "romantic" with his shapeshifting girlfriend), new comic-bookish cuts are added throughout the first half of the film (the novelty wears off very quickly! Luckily they taper off to one or two by the end of the movie), and the worst injustice of all.... one of the gorier monster deaths has been edited out of the film entirely. So if you're a major Guyver fan, hold onto your original copy on VHS; it's by far the more superior cut of the film. _________________ Jordan Garren

Sadly I don't believe there are any more cuts of "The Guyver" out there. I own the PG-13 theatrical cut on VHS (which I'm going to burn onto a DVD sometime very soon) and the Unrated Director's Cut on DVD (which as I said is the inferior version in my humble opinion). If you want some better action, buy the untampered with, "Guyver 2" or better yet, shell out some dough for the Manga DVD release of Guyver: Bio Booster Armor Volumes 1 and 2. The anime is very gory and it impressed me a lot!
If in the off chance I discover any other versions of the Guyver that are available (legally or illegally), I'll post about it here. _________________ Jordan Garren

Hey how is the new Guyver anime series?! I saw them on E-bay for rather exorbitant prices, but I'm really thinking of buying them because I NEED CLOSURE DAMMIT! _________________ Jordan Garren
