Homemade Monster (2010) – By Brian Morton

Men! I can’t tell you how many times in my life I’ve heard a woman say that. Now, is it my fault that I’m a man? Well, apparently, according to what I’ve been told, it is. So, is it any wonder that the quest for the perfect man is something that every woman can identify with? Well, in a new movie, Homemade Monster, a woman takes that quest to the extreme.

Leia and Brandon have a pretty stormy relationship, and Brandon is fed up. He decides that it’s time to leave, but Leia can’t stand to see him go, so she does what any woman would do…she kills him. Now, Leia finds herself without a man, so she decides to find the perfect man…but, we all know that there is no such thing…and if you think there is, I can give you my wife’s phone number, she’ll explain it to you. So, Leia decides that there are good parts to every man, it’s just that no man is all good…so, why not take those good parts, cut them off the men, and put together the perfect man? It’s a great plan! So, Leia finds the best men from around town, lures them back to her house and then cuts off the part that she thinks is best about them…whether it’s their good heart, their brain or…other parts of interest to a lonely woman! When the parts are all assembled, it’s time for a bit of electricity to get our new boyfriend up and running.

Homemade Monster is a very strange little movie, mostly because the story is told through song…and not just any song, rockabilly songs! Homemade Monster is one of the more interesting indies that I’ve seen this year, it’s gory, it’s funny and it’s got some good music in it. I’m giving Homemade Monster 3 out of 4 cigars, it’s not perfect and it’s not for everyone, but if you’re looking for something that’s truly different, then this could be for you!
