Memphis Wrestling Yearbook (1983) – By Jason S. Lockard

In the 1980’s wrestling was all the rage. People were watching the big promotions of WWF and NWA, but wrestling fans were also watching smaller promotions as well! One of the biggest small time promotions was Memphis Wrestling with their featured superstar Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler.

No small time promotion received as much media bliss as Memphis Wrestling did because of their storyline between Jerry Lawler and comedian Andy Kaufman. It captivated the whole world. They even had a confrontation on David Letterman’s show.

This DVD looks back at some rare TV matches from the year 1983 in Memphis Wrestling. In this program we get to see superstars who would make it to the big time such as Bobby Eaton, Terry Taylor, Jimmy Hart and Jacques Rogeau and some great talent that never broke through, such as; Stan Hansen, ‘Exotic’ Adrian Street, Bill Dundee, Jesse Barr and Apocaylpse.

In this over 2 hour program we get 12 matches, interviews, music videos and more. There is a lot of great action, but the standout matches for me was the series between AWA World Champion Nick Bockwinkle and Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler.

The matches are not full uncut matches these are matches that were shown on TV so hence the cuts. Than the video are a little less the spectacular. While it is disappointing, I think it is forgivable when you think these TV episodes are 23 years old.

All in all this is a nice little collection of the year 1983 in Memphis wrestling. So if you are a fan of Memphis wrestling pick up this collection. Head over to or your local video provider and pick this one up today!
