Midnight Son (2011) – By Brian Morton

Vampires, vampires, vampires. It seems that every horror movie aimed at teens these days has a vampire in it! Well, a new movie from Scott Leberecht, Midnight Son, is a vampire movie for people who are a bit older and looking for something a bit different.

Jacob is a security guard, who has to work nights because of a skin condition that makes his skin burn in the sunlight. Jacob makes the best of it, working and doing everything at night and sleeping all day. But, Jacob seems to be getting sicker, he’s becoming weak and jaundiced, symptoms of anemia, which leaves Jacob craving blood. At first, getting blood from grocery store meat is enough, but soon, like a drug addict, Jacob needs more, fresher blood!

Midnight Son is one of the more original vampire movies, I’ve seen. There are no supernatural powers here; Jacob’s condition is treated as a medical condition, not something that you’d want. And, when he ‘infects’ others, it’s not necessarily a good thing! If you’re into vampires, but are tired of the sparkly, whiney kinds, then you’re going to love Midnight Son; it’s a vampire movie with an original twist.

I’m giving Midnight Son 4 out of 4 cigars, it’s a great movie and I’d love to see a sequel! Get infected yourself over at http://www.image-entertainment.com.
