Mimesis (2012) – By Brian Morton

As a horror fan, and I think I can speak for all of us here, you often wonder, what would I do if….? Well, a new movie from writer/director Douglas Schulze attempts to answer that question, it’s called Mimesis and it’s one of the most original horror concepts I’ve seen, so far, this year.

The story is pretty simple; a group of people are at a horror convention and are invited to a late night after party. The ones who attend wake up the next day and zombies have come to life…or have they? The really cool thing about Mimesis is the echoes of Night Of The Living Dead built into it. Is the movie some kind of nightmare, a weird hell on earth or has the movie become reality? I won’t tell you here, you’ll have to grab it yourself to find out!

Let me say this though, Mimesis is one of the best acted and directed movies I’ve seen this year. The story is tight and well told; the audience finds itself in the same boat as the victims until the last part of the movie…where you’ll even find out what Mimesis really is! If you love zombie movies, and especially the original ‘Night’, then you’re going to love this movie! I’m giving Mimesis 4 out of 4 cigars, it’s hard for me to sit through a zombie movie anymore, but this one renewed my faith in the genre!
