Rogue Cinema Sleepover Girl - July 2009

Erika Smith

All About Erika:

Name: Erika Smith

Age: I don't like to say, I think it screws with how I'm cast. I typically play early-mid 20's.

Location: New York, NY

Some of my favorite things: I love the outdoors, the summertime, picnics, going to the beach. Vacations, getting away, getting flowers, getting any kind of present!!! Old movies, pin-up drawings, any kind of old-timey Americana stuff. Chocolate, chai tea lattes, grapefuits. Chivalry and good manners! I love Bob Dylan, Elvis, Billie Holiday and stuff but I'm not a music snob, I love Beyonce and Britney Spears too!!

Most people would be surprised to know that I: Have a photographic memory.

Hobbies / special skills: I'm really good with money, budgeting, and organizing stuff. I could sit happily all day sorting paper clips.

Number of years acting / modeling: Professionally - 12. But I was in school plays and stuff since I was a kid.

Favorite genre(s) and or film(s): I love movies from the 30's and 40's, especially screwball comedies like "My Man Godfrey," "It Happened One Night," and "Twentieth Century." I love the glamour of old movies. Anything with Humphrey Bogart - "High Sierra" is one of my favorites. "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," "Butterfield 8." Any Frank Capra or Howard Hawks movie.

Acting / modeling gigs that I'm the most proud of: I have a bit part in "The Wrestler," I play one of the dancers in the club where Marisa Tomei's character works. Also, "Bachelor Party 2," I play a German backpacker girl, Hedda. And "Hysterical Psycho," I have a scene with Gilbert Gottfried. And, no one will ever see it, but I played Nora in "A Doll's House," off-off-Broadway years ago.

What I look for in a potential acting or modeling job: Who I will be working with - the director, writer, other actors etc., and the quality of their work in the past. The quality of the script. What kind of story, the genre, the character I will be playing. I love doing comedy, but sometimes I'm in the mood to be serious. It depends what's going on in my life I guess! I have a short attention span, so I like variety. I just finished shooting a film noir called "Rain Falls," in which I play a femme fatale murderer, and the week after that was over I was badgering my manager to try and get me on Sesame Street.

Bio:
I'm from a small town near Boston, Massachusetts called Carlisle. I was really bored there and didn't fit in at all, and I always dreamed of coming to New York and being an actress or folksinger like my idol, Bob Dylan. I saved up money and moved here, went to acting and music school, and then started doing theater, most notably "A Doll's House," and I played Susan Smith in "MedeaMachine," in the 2002 Fringe Festival. I did a ton of student films, and then finally got into some indie films, and horror films, my first was a horror-comedy called "Bite Me!" I've been working pretty steadily ever since. After getting the role in "Bachelor Party 2" in 2007, I started getting small roles in more mainstream, bigger budget films, while getting the chance to play larger roles, leads and more complex characters in smaller, indie films. I just wrapped 2 films, "Rain Falls," and "Paradise East," and have a couple films in film festivals now - "Three Chris's," and "Hysterical Psycho."

Be honest, has a horror movie ever made you physically ill?

Yeah, and I puked!
Yeah, but I held it in.
Kinda.
No, but if I had been eating, it would have.
No, never.
