Film Reviews: Masters of Horror: Dream Cruise (2007) - By Brian Morton
Posted on Saturday, December 01, 2007 @ 11:44:33 Mountain Standard Time by Duane

If you don't know by now, I'm a huge fan of the Masters of Horror series, and am having some trepidation about its move to broadcast TV, from its Showtime home. I'm hoping that it will still have it's edge, but, my guess is that the FCC and other evil corporate entities will take the bite out of any horror that might be filmed...so, our only hope is to pick up the DVDs! And they just released a new episode, and it's a great one, Dream Cruise!

The premise here is pretty good, an American, who's working in Tokyo, has been having an affair with one of his client's wives. Now, that client has invited him to go on a boat ride with him. When they're out at sea, he begins hinting that he knows that his wife and colleague have been unfaithful and is planning on killing them, the idyllic cruise suddenly turns tense and, when ghosts become involved, it turns deadly!

The real beauty of this particular episode of Masters of Horror, is that not only was it filmed overseas by Norio Tsuruta (who brought us Premonition) and, that it's presented here in a longer version (it was filmed as a theatrical release in Japan, and that's what we get here). It also has some really great extras on the DVD, including a behind the scenes doc that allows us to see the cultural differences in movies made here versus in Asia, it's very telling and opened my eyes about the differences in the movies! It's all well worth the price! You can head over to the Anchor Bay web site to find out how you can get a copy of this episode (and any other) for yourself! So, until next time, when we'll talk about what bait is best used to catch underwater ghosts, remember that the best movies are bad movies.
