Oniris (2012) – By Brian Morton

It’s always been my contention that women and men have different ideas about romance. Women want to talk about feelings and snuggle and get pretty gifts. Men see romance in sacrifice and work. After all, if I’m working to make my wife’s life better, what could be more romantic? Well, a new short film by Pato Milad called Oniris, gives us a look at romance…from both sides.

Diego and Angela are deeply in love. He’s a business man looking for a new job and she’s an artist…opposites attracting. The two of them seem to be incredibly happy and compatible. Then, one day, Angela asks Diego if he ‘believes in dreams’…well, as a man, Diego thinks of dreams as…well, dreams, and this causes Angela some problems and she decides to end the relationship. Well, Diego isn’t about to walk away without some kind of fight, so he finds a doctor to try to figure out why Angela has changed so much, so quickly and the doctor believes that she might have become involved in a cult! And, from there, things get a bit strange.

To tell you more would ruin the (truly romantic) ending of this short. Suffice it to say that this short romance should satisfy both you and your wife, it’s one of those rare romantic movies that allows both women and men to enjoy it without feeling like they’re compromising their tastes. I’m giving Oniris 4 out of 4 cigars, it’s a terrific movie with something for everyone! And, the good news is that you can check it out for yourself by heading over to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyoM8GWTALM. So, head over there now…and watch it with someone you love!
