Passing Place (2014) – By Loida D Garcia

Passing Place.  In this short film we follow Joe as he tries to come to terms with the death of his brother Bobby who was killed in a drunk driving accident by retired entertainer Dusty Beaumont.

This film was a submission to the Glasgow 48 hour film competition.  Passing Place shows us exactly how these competitions should be done.  After watching this short I can see how they won the Best Actor and Audience Choice awards.

In less than 5 minutes Passing Place not only manages to keep us from feeling lost when we are tossed into witness a discussion being held in a car out in the middle of no where, but they have also managed to have us become emotionally involved with all of the characters.  This film makes sure to show both sides and have you torn by the time we get to the “breaking” point for these characters.

Everything was done beautifully.  The acting, sets, props, script, cinematography, editing, etc.  All of it was amazing.  It truly is hard to believe that it was all done in just a short 48 hours from beginning to end.  This is another film that is available for all to watch on YouTube so I highly recommend that you open up a new tab right now and take the next 5 minutes to watch this film!
