Power Play (2016) – Jim Morazzini

Power Play is a three minute short made for the 2016 Rode Reel Competition. Two martial arts champions fight over a beautiful hostage, but all is not as it seems. There are outside influences at work, and a surprise in store for our warriors.

At three minutes long there isn’t much more I can say about the plot without giving it all away. I’ll just say the first twist may not be a huge surprise, but the final scene had me laughing. It’s a well shot film with great fight choreography. The sound is particularly good but that’s hardly a surprise as the contest is sponsored by Rode Microphones.

What I can say is you really should check this out. It’s available on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAOq3Fcd0QI

…and on the contest’s site: http://www.rode.com/myrodereel/watch/entry/2591

There’s also a short behind the scenes video on that page as well.

Rock Chang and Y.J. Gold have a lot of potential and I’d like to see more of their work.
