Redneck Red: Roar of the Swamp #1 (2013) – By Jason S. Lockard

I recently received a digital copy of the first issue of Fierce Comics Redneck Red. When you see the cover of this comic book you can’t help but notice it’s a little bit different from your average one. Is it the glowing red eyes, the jug of booze, or the axe? Maybe it’s the whole package, but one thing is for sure; this isn’t your father’s comic book.

Redneck Red is a resident of the Everglades who obtained super strength and glowing eyes from drinking radioactive moonshine. He’s not big on trespassers snooping around in his swamp and thus trespassers will pay the ultimate price. When a company sends a group to the Everglades to gather a rare plant, needless to say Redneck Red is not a happy camper and has to take matters into his hands, to protect his Swamp.

Redneck Red issue 1 is 24 pages an interesting story written by Ben Filipiak and Pat Batton and amazing art by Scott Reed and the cover By Don Hillsman II. The violence is a little much for younger readers, so parents be aware of that. You can buy a digital copy for just $.99 for your Android, iPad, iPhone, or computer.

In the final analysis I love comic books, but I am not a fan of digital comics. Me I want to feel the comic book in my hand! That’s me, but if you love digital comics by all means head over to and pick up a copy of the first issue of Redneck Red.
