Scalene (2010) – By Brian Morton

Zack Parker’s last movie, Quench, made such an impression on me that when I heard about his new movie; I couldn’t wait to see it. And, I have to admit his new movie, Scalene, lives up to my expectations…and more!

The story opens with an older woman stalking a younger woman with a gun. Did this woman steal a husband or boyfriend? That’s what we assume…and there’s the beauty of Scalene. Parker takes everything we assume and then turns it around, until, in the end, we’re not sure exactly whose truth is actually the truth.

Ordinarily, an indie drama just isn’t really my thing, but Zack Parker puts together a movie that draws you in and makes you really care about the people in the story. I also have to give kudos to the stars of the movie, Margo Martindale is amazing as Janice Trimble, Adam Scarimbolo is perfect as Jakob and Hanna Hall really makes you cry as Paige. All three are perfectly cast and are amazing in their parts!

I really can’t say enough about Scalene, and if I say too much I’ll ruin a movie that you HAVE TO SEE! It’s great, it’s amazing, it’s heartfelt, it’s the best movie I’ve see this year. I’m giving Scalene 4 out of 4 cigars because 8 out of 4 seems to be a bad fraction!
