Scream 4 (2011) – By Brian Morton

When I first read that there was going to be a new Scream trilogy, my first thought was ‘Why?’. But, I have to admit, after checking out the latest, Scream 4 (out on October 4th from Anchor Bay), I was much happier than I thought I’d be.

If you’ve seen the original Scream, you know the basic outline of the stories, Sidney Prescott returns to Woodsboro for some reason, only to have a masked killer begin killing the people around her. This time, it’s been years since she’s been back and her niece and her niece’s friends are the new targets of Ghost Face. Now, I know what you’re thinking, ‘oh great, another lame sequel’, and that’s what I thought too, but this isn’t really a sequel, it’s more a remake, but it’s a remake in the same way that Scream was a slasher more, Scream 4 takes the ‘remake rules’ and turns them on their heads, which makes Scream 4 much more like a re-launch, than a re-make.

I’m giving Scream 4, 4 out of 4 cigars. It’s nice to see that Wes Craven still has it in him to make a really amazing, scary, fun mystery horror movie, if you loved the original trilogy, don’t hesitate to grab this 4th installment, it’s well worth the price of admission.
