Separation Anxiety (2010) – By Brian Morton

We all deal with loss in our lives; it’s the way we deal with it that makes us who we are. Well, a new film by Cole Simon, Separation Anxiety, will have you re-evaluating your relationships and remembering to tell the ones close to you that you love them.

Separation Anxiety is the tale of three friends, Quinn, Jess and Bailey. They’ve known each other since childhood and now that they’re older, their lives have taken separate paths. Quinn has moved to the west coast to go to school, while Jess and Bailey remain in their small town, Jess with a job and Bailey struggling to find himself. One day, Jess calls Quinn to let him know that Bailey has died and he needs to come home, both friends find themselves struggling with why and how Bailey died, and with the relationship with their friend that has just ended so abruptly.

Separation Anxiety really relies on the strength of its cast, Kiana Harris is wonderful as Jess, Tyler Seiple is great as Quinn, Corbin Jones is both strong and vulnerable as Bailey and John Wesley Shipp turns in a great performance and the strong, yet struggling father of Bailey. Those four people turn this from what potentially could be a standard ‘after school special’ kind of movie, into something amazing that will make you laugh and cry at the same time!

I’m giving Separation Anxiety 4 out of 4 cigars, it’s a movie that will break your heart and make you want to find the people you love and never let them go! Do yourself a favor, either find a theatre where you can see this movie, or buy the DVD…unless you’re a heartless bastard, you’re going to need tissues nearby!
