Slashdance (2011) – By Brian Morton

The fun of going to film festivals is hitting the parties, doing the meet and greets and getting to meet the filmmakers who are showing their films. Well, a new short from Cindy Baer, Slashdance, is making me rethink the whole party scene at these things!

Slashdance centers around two women who are having a fun weekend at the Sundance Film Festival. One is invited to a party where her fortune cookie tells her she’ll ‘meet the person she’ll spend the rest of her life with’. With a promise like that, how’s a person to refuse. So, off she heads to the party and soon she meets Guy, a filmmaker who’s making a movie while at the film festival. Guy invites her to his condo for a private party that he’s throwing and the two head off. Except, it soon become apparent that the party is of a decidedly more intimate variety!

Slashdance is a very cool horror short that left me wanting more. I’d love to see Ms. Baer take this concept and flesh it out with a bit more detail. But, don’t let that stop you from checking out this amazing short film! I’m giving Slashdance 4 out of 4 cigars, it’s a genre film that’s totally different than anything I’ve ever seen and its loads of fun!
